Calexico, Cal., Military Sta., Oct 13, 1916 (Imperial), duplex postmark (IMP-380) tying 2¢ carmine (s.e. at right and bottom) on cover to Vancouver Barracks, Washington, carried out of Mexico by military express to the special established Post Office at Calexico, Very Fine.Estimate $150 - 200.
The Military Station was established to handle the mail that was passed to and from Black Jack Pershing "Army" that had invaded Mexico (March 14, 1916 to February 7, 1917) to chase down and kill Pancho Villa after he crossed into the US and attacked Columbia, NM. Only mail coming out of Mexico will have the Calexico postal mark. Only a few examples known with this being the only example directed to the west coast.
