1910, 1¢ Black on Glazed Paper, Vignette Only Essay, untrimmed woodcut die essay of nearly complete 22 x 27mm vignette of McKinley (P.O. die 535), except with cross-hatch background shading, the die has an overall irregular size of 39 x 41mm, on 153 x 195mm glazed white paper, P.O. Department red "14" handstamp, Very Fine. Scott No. UX21E-G.
USPCC No. S28E-G    $2,000 as similar.

THE ONLY RECORDED EXAMPLE OF THIS VIGNETTE ONLY DIE ESSAY BY STERLING ENGRAVING CO. OF NEW YORK.

Although not so stated on the essay, it was the product of the Sterling Engraving Co. of New York. The original die is now in the vaults of the Bureau of Engraving and printing.
