1861, 1¢-90¢ issues, plate proof on India paper, set of 9 of the eight denominations; includes 3¢ in dull red and lake colors, 5¢ in brown (76P3) and 24¢ in lilac (78P3), blocks of 4, ample to mostly large margins, rich vibrant colors throughout, 12¢ with couple small natural thins, a Very Fine set.

May 28" cds (ms. day), matching pen cancel "X" on 3¢ dull red (26) that was not accepted for payment on "Long may it wave" Flag Patriotic cover to Frederick City Md.; 3¢ 1857 issue with tear at right, Fine and rare post-demonetized Civil War patriotic use; with 2004 P.F. certificate.

Pkt, Paid, Feb 19" exchange backstamp with bold red "28" credit handstamp, red London Paid (3.5) transit and red crayon "1" Colonial credit, Port Elizabeth (4.17) arrival backstamp; 30¢ s.e. at right and minor flaws, some minor cover edgewear, otherwise Very Fine cover from the Howland correspondence.

'Paid' Jul 30" transit cds and magenta "52" cent credit to G.B., red "London, AU 9 '62" transit with red crayon "1" colonial 1d credit, blue "Hong Kong, SP 21 '62" backstamp; 3¢ restored, light cover crease at left, a Very Fine appearing use at the 57¢ British Mail rate via Marseilles, ex-Paliafito, DuPuy.
