Hawaii, 1863, 1¢ black on grayish, Westerberg Hybrid Plate 4-AB, complete pane of 10, left column Plate 4-A (types I-III-V-VII-IX) and right column Plate 4-B (types II-IV-VI-VIII-X), with full sheet margins and original gum, few creases and top left stamp with small hole, otherwise Very Fine, with Scott retail not factoring this rare hybrid format, ex-Tows & Honolulu Advertiser; with 1996 P.F. certificate.

ONE OF TWO RECORDED COMPLETE PANES OF TEN OF THE 1863 1¢ BLACK ON GRAYISH NUMERAL BEARING A HYBRID PANE FROM PLATES 4-A & 5-A.

Westerberg notes that although plate 4-B represents the final stage of the fourth setting, typographical changes did not occur at the same time. This pane showing both plate 4-A and 4-B types as an intermediate between the two plates. He also notes that a tête-bêche block of 6 bearing both types also exists.
