Baltimore, Md., 1845, 5¢ red, lightly inked strikes as is usual for the scarcer Red provisional, blue "Baltimore Md. May 17" cds on circa 1846 manila entire addressed to Miss Susan Julia Mayer in Reading Pa.; couple small toned spots top right, backflap reattached with small part repaired, Fine and rare; with 2008 P.F. certificate.

New York, N.Y., 1846, 5¢ black on bluish, signed "ACM" connected, horizontal pair, positions 4-5, large margins all around, tied by neat blue manuscript, red "New-York '10 cts' 6 Feb" cds and matching "Paid" arc handstamp to Seneca N.Y., a Very Fine use; with 2004 P.S.E. certificate that says pair with light file fold crease at bottom that we disagree with as paper fibers are intact.

New York, N.Y., 1846, 5¢ black on bluish, signed "ACM" connected, Position 15, large margins to in at left, two natural pre-print paper creases, tied by bold red circular grid cancels, matching "Paid" and "New-York, Jan 17" cds on blue 1850 folded letter to Philadelphia Pa.; stamp removed and replaced downward, Fine, The latest recorded legal use of a New York provisional by 2½ years; with 2012 P.F. certificate not mentioning stamp movement.

The 5¢ New York Provisional issue was essentially demonetized at this point in time. The clerk probably figured that the New York Post Office had received 5¢ for the stamp, so he treated it as he would have in 1847 as prepaid.

New York, N.Y., 1846, 5¢ black on bluish, signed "ACM" connected, four large, well balanced margins, tied on folded cover to Williamstown, Mass. by red New York c.d.s and red square grid cancels, matching arc "Paid" handstamp at left, Extremely Fine, a lovely cover cancelled solely by New York postmarks, not with the usual manuscript cancellation; with 1999 P.S.E. certificate.

The Philadelphia "R" handstamp is occasionally seen on 5¢ and 10¢ 1847 Issue covers, but it is rare on 1845 New York Provisional covers, with fewer than five known.

New York, N.Y., 1846, 5¢ black on bluish, signed "ACM", "AC" connected, vertical pair, Positions 31/36, showing double-line recuts at bottom and top respectively, canceled by heavy strokes of blue pen, red "New-York '10 cts.' 22 Mar" integral-rate cds on blue folded letter to Macon Ga.; file fold thru both stamps causes slight paper split, overall cover wear and non-contemporary pen writing, still a Fine appearing pair of these two distinctive recut positions; with 1987 P.F. certificate incorrectly as 9X1.
