New Brunswick, 1860, 1¢ red lilac, horizontal strip of five, tied by light barred oval handstamp on folded letter sheet to Fredericton, with "Saint John, N.B., Ma 6, 1868" cds additionally tying strip and reverse with receiving postmark; file folds affecting two stamps, Very Fine appearance, a lovely and rare multiple usage of the 1860 1¢ issue, ex-Caspary.

Newfoundland, Airmail, 1930, 50¢ on 36¢ Columbia Flight, o.g., barest trace of hinge, exceptional centering, bright and fresh with rich color, Extremely Fine, one of the finest mint examples known; with 2001 B.P.A. certificate.

A CHOICE MINT EXAMPLE OF THE 1930 50¢ ON 36¢ COLUMBIA FLIGHT ISSUE.

The Newfoundland government overprinted 300 copies of the 36¢ "Caribou" issue for use on this flight. Only 100 were actually used: 65 from St. John's and 35 from Harbour Grace. After flying 2,650 miles, the plane was forced down at Tresco Island, off the coast of England. The "Columbia" was able to finish the flight, landing at Croydon Airport on October 13.
