1867, 1¢ blue, E. grill, wide margins and wonderfully rich color, just tied by neat target handstamp on locally addressed cover, matching "Whitestone, N.Y., May 2" cds, Extremely Fine, a very attractive solo usage; with 1990 & 2003 P.F. certificates.

1867, 2¢ black, E. grill, two singles, left stamp scissors separated, tied by geometric cancels to May 28, 1869 folded letter from Boston to Rosario, Argentina, red numeral "2" credit and partially clear London Paid transit, treated as double rate printed matter and rated as such, Very Fine and rare, the only reported example.

1867, 2¢ black, F. grill, horizontal pair, in combination with 1868, 3¢ red, F. grill, two singles (94) paying the 10¢ direct NGU rate to Gundelsheim, Wurttemberg, all canceled by grid handstamps with matching "Detroit, Mich., Dec 5" origin cds, red circular "New York, Direct, Paid All, Dec 8" and boxed Hamburg transit date stamps, receiving backstamp; 3¢ at right with s.e. and margin nick, otherwise Very Fine.

1867, 10¢ yellow green, F. grill, choice centering amid wide margins, tied by "Chicago, Ill., Oct 20" cds's and quartered cork duplex on cover to Bernburg, Germany, Bremen box transit date stamp and transit backstamp, Very Fine and choice, a gem stamp on cover; signed Brookman, with 1986 P.F. certificate.

Transit, Jan 5" exchange cds and receiving backstamp, F.-V.F.

1867, 12¢ black, F. grill, two singles, tied by blue Philadelphia foreign mail geometric handstamps on 1869 mourning cover to Sherborne, England, purple "Phil'a, Paid All, Mar 12" exchange cds, receiving backstamp, cover missing backflap, otherwise Very Fine.

This Philadelphia foreign mail cancel (PFM 69-1) is recorded used only in blue from Jan. 12th to Apr. 20th 1869.

1867, 15¢ black, F. grill, deep color, tied by blue geometric fancy cancel (Barwis PFM 69-1) on 1869 cover to Paris, France, purple "Philadelphia, Paid 12, Apr 30" exchange cds and red boxed "PD" handstamp additionally tying stamp, reverse with transit and receiving date stamps, Very Fine and attractive, this being one of two known examples of this Philadelphia geometric foreign mail cancel; with 2022 P.F. certificate.
Scott No. 98    Estimate $400 - 600.

Beginning in 1868 the Philadelphia Exchange Office began using purple, red and orange inks for their date stamps. Although these colors certainly made covers more attractive, they have no postal significance.

1867, 24¢ gray lilac, F. grill, nicely centered single tied by segmented cork handstamp on Nautical Instrument corner card cover to London, England, red "New York, Paid All, Apr 4" exchange cds and London entry date stamp, otherwise Very Fine, scarce usage; with 2022 P.S.A.G. certificate.
