Hawaii, (Hawaii) Hamakua Mill Co., A. Lidgate, Manager, purple two-line script handstamp (AUXPRIAG-Hamakua(script)) cancelling on 1899, 2¢ rose, horizontal pair on legal size cover to Honolulu, reverse with "Honolulu, H.I., May 15, 1900" receiving backstamp; stamps with some lightly toned perfs, Very Fine, believed to be unique provisional postmark usage of this mill marking, ex-Burns & Twigg-Smith; with 2007 P.F. certificate.
Scott No. 81    Estimate $1,000 - 1,500.

Hamakua Mill was located between Paauhau and Paauilo in the Hamakua District of the Big Island and was managed by J. R. Renton until 1899 when A. Lidgate became manager. He also managed the Paauilo Store where the post office was located and acted as postmaster of Paauilo from 1898 to 1900, when this cover was mailed.

Hawaii, (Hawaii) Hilo P.O., neat manuscript postmark (802, 1RRRR) on 1863, 2¢ carmine rose, vertically laid paper, some slight edge soiling, F.-V.F., one of only four examples of this Hilo manuscript postmark and the only one bearing the abbreviated "P.O." designation.
