Hawaii, (Maui) Wailuku Post Office, Hawaiian Islands, Oct 18, 1869, blue double oval date stamp (215, 1RRR) on reverse of cover to Springfield, Vt., franked with U.S. 1868, 10¢ yellow green, F. grill (96) tied by the rim of a duplex in S.F., Honolulu, Hawaiian-Islands, Oct 20 and red "San Francisco, Cal., Oct 31" transit cds's; cover with backflap added and repaired nice and tears at top, stamp faulty, F.-V.F., one of only eight recorded covers with the rare Wailuku double-oval ribbon-marker datestamp, ex-Twigg-Smith.Estimate $750 - 1,000.
After the Honolulu straightline postmark, this mark is the next Hawaii postmark to incorporate a year date. We note another similar use from the same correspondence to John L. Chase at Springfield Vt. dated Aug. 2nd 1869.
