Alleghany, Cal., Jan 17, cds and straight line "Due 10" handstamp on lemon cover to Vermont with hand-colored illustrated Four Horse Stagecoach design and "Overland via Los Angeles" imprint, uncancelled 1857, 10¢ green, type V (35) affixed at left purportedly to pay the postage due but may not belong, still Very Fine.

Bodie Bluff Consolidation Mining Co., 1860's, three unused unseparated illustrated stock certificates in black, red & yellow, each signed by company President Leland Stanford; portion of receipts at left cut into, otherwise Very Fine.

California Registered Letter Receipts for Mail to Jacksonville, O.T., 1856, 27 receipts from various California town, most signed by postmasters; towns including Scott Bar, Colusa, Monte, Sutter Creek, San Andreas, Ottitiewa, Scott River, Chico, Vallecito, Oroville, Princeton, Mormon Island, Whisky Creek, Vacaville, Weaverville, Cottonwood & Forbestown, some town duplication, Very Fine overall.

Lot 1676    

Owensville, Cal., Nov 24/69 (Mono), manuscript postmark (MON-990) on 1864, 3¢ pink entire to Redwood City, Cal., manuscript canceled, tiny stain in top right corner and reduced at left, otherwise Very Fine, very rare with only four or five examples known.
Estimate    $1,000 - 1,500.

Owensville was opened in 1866 and lasted 4 years before the buildings were moved 4 miles south west and the name changed to Bishop Creek.

(Sacramento) Sacramento City Covers, 1850-1900, attractive collection of about 25 items, variety of cancels including many scarce early such as 1850 oval "Sacramento" (SAC-2480) (Williams 7) with manuscript red "40", to New York; integral "12½" with manuscript "On Official Business"; various rate handstamps & Paid 10, arc "Paid 6", various 6¢ & 10¢ Nesbitt entires; and more; condition is mixed, but many nice covers present, please review. (no photo).

Jul. 15 (Trinity), cds with matching straight line "Free" handstamp on yellow envelope to San Francisco, "Official., This Envelope is to be used only for Post Office Business." imprint at bottom left and "Here affix Official Stamp" printed collar at top right, backstamped with Carrier cds, Very Fine.
Estimate    $150 - 200.

This is an illegal usage of a Post Office Free envelope and first example we have seen.
