Alviso, Cal., Sept 3d, 1861 (Santa Clara), manuscript postmark on red and blue Eagle & Flag patriotic cover with "Our Union Forever" caption, to Cortland, N.Y. franked with manuscript canceled 1857, 10¢ green, type V tied by postmark; small cover front nick at left, otherwise Very Fine, a very scarce patriotic usage from Alviso, California.

(Calaveras), light strike of blue three line postmark (Williams CAL-60) on folded letter to Stockton, Cal., franked with 1851 3¢ dull red (defective) cancelled by matching circle of V's, datelined "Carson Hill 1854", letter reattached internally to outer lettersheet, F.-V.F., only a handful of these exist, ex-Vogel, Oakley & Myerson, illustrated in Simpson.
