N.O. Pauly's Express. Black printed company frank at top of 1864, 3¢ pink entire to San Francisco, canceled by blue Wells, Fargo & Co., Gibsonville oval date stamp, return to docketing to Jamison City at left; small cover tears at top and missing backflap, F.-V.F., a very express usage connecting with Wells, Fargo & Co. at Gibsonville for delivery, only six Pauly's Express usages are recorded, three of which bearing this type frank, ex Lichtenstein.

R. Penman's Express. Embossed frank on backflap of 1870, 3¢ green entire to Tunnelton, W. Va., Wells, Fargo & Co. black printed frank at top, entered the mails with partial "San Fran & Ogden, R.P.O." cds and cork canceling; cover edge wear and small tear at top, F.-V.F., The only recorded example of this one-man express frank, Penman operated from Truckee to Jamison, Mohawk and Eureka Mills connecting with Wells, Fargo & Co. at Truckee.

Philip & Gregory's Express, Paid. Ornate box frank on 1864 3¢ pink entire to Dutch Flat, Cal., cancelled with blue Wells Fargo Nevada oval date stamp (Leutzinger type 11-9); minor faults at left and trimmed just into frank, F.-V.F., two examples of this frank and a total of three known for this excessively rare Nevada county express.

Phillips Express, Pr. Manuscript marking in lower left corner of 1853 3¢ red entire to Nevada City, Cal., with manuscript note "with $180.75 in coin"; few tone spots and slightly trimmed at left, F.-V.F., extremely rare Nevada county express with only two known examples.

Rhodes & Whitney's Express, Weaverville. Blue oval handstamp on stampless envelope to Gills Flat, North Salmon, Cal.,small burnt notch out of top, F.-V.F., five examples of this mark known and only 8 known usages for this express.

River Express. 3 covers; including the only known manuscript cover with "River Express Paid" on 2¢ brown 1884 entire to San Francisco, Cal., normal green frank with red double oval cancel on 2¢ green 1887 entire and a corner card cover headed "If not called for in ten days"; small faults to first two covers, otherwise Very Fine.

River Express, Bring Return Package. Red two-line handstamp on blank white envelope, probably accompanied a package to Oakland, Cal., Very Fine, the only known example of this interesting supplemental mark.

W.H. Robinson, Express Agent, Sacramento. Bold black double oval handstamp on folded letter with manuscript "Caledonia, Me., June 13, 1852" originating postmark with matching "10" rate, to Sacramento City, Cal., soiling and edge wear, a Very Fine and choice strike.

Rowe & Co., Weaver(ville). Clear oval handstamp with "Paid" in center on cover to San Jose, Cal., in conjunction with red "Pacific Express & Co., Shasta" oval date stamp, original enclosure datelined April 6, 1856 regarding little about mining and a lot about a woman; cover edge wear and staining at left, Fine, three total known from this express with two being this marking, another postal stampless Weaverville cover to same addressee accompanies, a great northern rarity, ex Lichtenstein.

Rumrill & Co., Northern Express, Connecting with Wells Fargo & Co. Very clear blue double oval handstamp on stampless folded letter wrapper (not complete) with straightline "Indian River, Me." origin postmark with manuscript "10" for the rate; portion of back clipped out, otherwise Very Fine, only four examples of this Rumrill mark known, a great cover especially with the straightline.
Estimate    $1,000 - 1,500.
