"Wells Fargo & Co., Messenger" with Large Numerals. 11 covers (Leutzinger 8-12) virtually all with different numbered handstamp, 1870-90's; numbers including 7, 17 (2), 61, 82-83, 85 (in violet and purple), 86, 91 & 97; readable strikes throughout, F.-V.F., much scarcer than the small numeral counterparts.

Manuscript endorsement on brown envelope, franked with uncanceled 1851, 3¢ dull red, horizontal pair slightly overlapping cover at top, to Sacramento, Cal.; minor cover edge wear, F.-V.F., a most unusual westbound express cover with directions to use Nicaragua route as Wells Fargo was not associated with this route normally.
