Truman & Chapman's Express, S.F. & S.J. Railroad. Black double framed box with Train with 4 cars in center on 1861 3¢ red complete paste-up entire addressed to San Francisco, Cal., with bold blue double circle "Redwood, Cal." express company cancel, Extremely Fine, a newly discovered and unique Truman cancellation.

Truman & Co.'s Express., Paid, S.F. & S.J. R.R. Express. Black printed frank in center of 1864 3¢ pink entire to San Francisco, Cal., with Pacific Union Express blue double circle of Watsonville; slightly trimmed at left, Very Fine, an attractive express combination.

Truman & Co.'s Express., Paid. Black printed frank at center of 1864 3¢ pink entire to San Francisco, Cal., with corner card of "L. Schwartz, Dealer in, Dry Goods, Clothing, etc, Santa Cruz", manuscript initial cancel, Very Fine.

Lot 1557    

Union City Express. Manuscript cancel on folded December 22, 1854 blue folded letter from Alvarado, Alameda County to San Francisco, handed over to Wells Fargo & Co. (blue oval Leutzinger type 3-1) who carried to San Francisco and then handed to Swift & Co. (in manuscript) for local delivery; central light filing fold, Very Fine, an exceptionally rare and important triple combination express.
Estimate    $4,000 - 6,000.

The Union City express ran in Alameda county (Union City being the early name for Alvarado) and this is the only known cover from arguably the earlier express company from Alameda county, the Swift is the only known fully manuscript cancel (the other three have the handstamp).

Lot 1558    

Vera's Express, Paid. Fancy black frank vertical printed at left on 1853 3¢ red entire to San Francisco, Cal., with additional frank of Wells Fargo (Haller type E) cancelled with "Wells Fargo & Co. Marysville" blue double oval handstamp (Leutzinger type 11-5); tear into frank at top, otherwise Very Fine, only six Vera's are listed with company using two different style franks, a rare and popular express.
Estimate    $1,500 - 2,000.
