Red cds (MH 236.11) on 1855 cover to Salem Oregon, franked with U.S. 1852, 3¢ dull red, horizontal pair tied by manuscript pencil cancel, straight line "Ship" and "7" rate handstamps with rate lightly crossed out in pencil; cover opened at bottom with slight soiling and some toning at left, Fine, carried to San Francisco on schooner E.L. Frost or steamship City of Norfolk overpaying the 5¢ rate (3¢ rate + 2¢ ship fee).

Dateline on 3 page folded letter to Boston, Mass., red arched "Ship 6" handstamp applied in Boston and manuscript "Brig May Dacre" ship endorsement at bottom left, written by missionary Levi Chamberlain regarding the haphazard of transporting items to the other items, …The Port of Honolulu is destined to be the most important of any among the islands of the Pacific. It is visited annually by more than a hundred sail of vessels. The most numerous ships are the whalers…, etc.; few small cover tears at top, otherwise Very Fine.

Hawaii, Honolulu, July 4, 1847. Dateline on 3 page folded letter to Oswego, N.Y., entered the U.S. mails with blue "Baltimore, Md., Feb 28" cds, matching straight line "Ship" and "12" rate handstamps, letter sent by Joel Turrill, American Consul in Hawaii and tells of the dispatch of a first bill of exchange…sent by the Montreal via China on the 25 of May., letter mentions this letter being sent…The "Modeste" sails tomorrow for Valparaiso via Tahiti & we send this letter by her and there the postage will be paid to the U.S. via Panama. I suppose it will reach you in about 4 months, unfortunately the letter was in transit for 8 months; few light tone spots, otherwise Very Fine, a remarkable transit from Honolulu.
