Mann's Inland Express/Crescent City./Paid. In double boxed black printed frank (Haller FM1) on 1853-55 3¢ Nesbitt entire to Yreka, California with blue "Waldo, OR." cds, Very Fine, a great rarity, only 2 used copies known, ex-Chalconer.
Estimate    $1,500 - 2,000.

Mann operated an express service between Crescent City and the gold strikes on the Illinois River at Sailors Diggings or Waldo, Oregon as the location was also known.

Noisy Carrier's Publication Hall, Long Wharf San Francisco, Charles P. Kimball Proprietor. Exceptional complete sharp strike of blue thee-line small type handstamp on cover to North Dighton Mass., franked with 1851, 3¢ dull red, type II, horizontal pair tied by partial San Francisco, Cal. cds, Very Fine and choice, a marvelous strike of one of the rarest Noisy Carrier's markings and quite certainly one if not the finest strikes of this difficult handstamp, ex Jessup, Haas, Jarrett.

Organ & Tibbetts' Excelsior Express. Boxed frank on 1864, 3¢ pink entire to Dutch Flat, indicia torn out with replacement affixed, Fine appearance, one of only two known examples of this rare frank, both of which have a replacement indicia.

Oroville & Quincy Express Co. Red and black printed frank at top of 1874, 3¢ green entire to San Francisco, Cal., reverse with violet "A.D. McIntyre & Co., Greenville, Plumas Co., Cal." sender's oval handstamp, Very Fine and choice, an exceptional example of this very rare express frank.
Estimate    $500 - 750.

This short-lived express company operated in 1874 from Oroville to Quincy as well as from Greenville, Crescent City and Taylorsville.

Pacific Express Co. Red printed frank on 1864, 3¢ pink entire to San Luis Rey endorsed "via: San Diego", with bold "R. E. Raimond/General Shipping And/Commission Merchant/Front Street Near Washington/San Francisco" oval corner card handstamp, sent by sea from San Francisco to San Diego, where it entered the mails with "San Diego, Cal., Aug 3" cds and matching obliterator, taken to its destination of San Luis Rey for ultimate delivery to Cave J. Couts, a 49'rs and wealthy landholder who resided on nearby Rancho Guajome; cover tear at top into frank, otherwise Very Fine.

Pacific Express Co./Los Angeles/Oct 7. Blue oval date stamp on 1855 folded letter to Columbia, Cal., matching "Paid" in oval handstamp and franked with uncanceled 1851, 3¢ dull red, enclosure regarding leaving to Shasta or northern mines with a lot of horses, etc., Very Fine, a rare early Pacific Express Co. usage from Los Angeles, ex Nathan.

Pacific Express Co./Marysville/Jul. 6. Blue oval handstamp on cover with black pony and rider company frank to the Noisy Carrier Charles P. Kimball in San Francisco franked with 1851 3¢ dull red affixed to comply with postal regulations but uncancelled, Very Fine.
Estimate    $150 - 200.

Prior to becoming the most important letter bag operator in San Francisco, Charles P. Kimball gained a reputation for being noisy while selling eastern newspapers brought in on the Panama and Nicaragua steamers. He promoted his wares by walking the streets and bellowing out the names and prices of the papers in rhyming verse.
