Vekol, Ariz., Dec 30, 1889 (Pinal), cds (Meyer 1, rarity 4) on Ve Kol Mine corner card cover to Fort Wayne, Ind., franked with target canceled 2¢ Banknote, Very Fine, ex Dike.

Verde, Arizona, Jul 26, 1879 (Yavapai), violet octagon date stamp (Meyer 1, rarity 7) on 1874, 3¢ green entire to Prescott, canceled by matching star in circle handstamp; cover reduction at left and some contemporary notations, otherwise Very Fine, this is one of only three known postmarks from Verde.
Estimate    $300 - 400.

Washington, Ariz., Dec 15, 1896 (Pima), cds (Meyer 1, rarity 6) on registered 1887, 2¢ green entire to Boston, Mass., uprated with 4¢ small bureau pair, cork canceled; some small tone spots, otherwise Very Fine, this is one of only three recorded examples of this postmark.

Webb, 1-1-10 (Cochise), manuscript postmark in circle (Meyer 1, rarity 7) used as receiver on reverse of El Paso & Southwestern System corner card cover, franked with 1¢ Washington, two singles tied by "Courtland, Ariz., Jan 1, 1910" four-bar cds; cover edge faults affecting one stamp, F.-V.F., the earliest and only known manuscript postmark from Webb.
Estimate    $200 - 300.

Wellton, Ariz., Dec 7 (Yuma), ca. 1907 manuscript postmark (Meyer 2, rarity 6) on 1904, 2¢ red entire to Los Angeles, Cal.; small edge tear, Very Fine, one of two manuscript postmarks known from Wellton.
Estimate    $150 - 200.

When the railroad came through the region, wells were needed to supply trains with water. Several deep wells were sunk, hence the name, Wellton.

Wendon, Ariz., Aug 24, 1910 (Yuma), manuscript name and purple straight line date provisional postmark (Meyer 2, rarity 6) tying 1¢ green on post card to Iowa, Very Fine, one of three recorded examples of this postmark.

White River, Ariz., Dec 3, 1902 (Navajo), cds (Meyer 1, rarity 6) on Ft. Apache corner card cover to Reedsville, Wis., franked with 2¢ small bureau tied by target handstamp; cover corner nick and reduction at right, otherwise Very Fine, one of three recorded examples of this postmark.

Wilcox, Arizona, A.F.B., Apr 9 (Pima), ca. 1881 cogged cds (Meyer 1A, rarity 6) on cover to Forrest, O., franked with 3¢ Banknote (natural s.e.) tied by partial strike of cds, Very Fine and choice, this is one of only two recorded examples of this postmark bearing the postmaster's initials.
Estimate    $200 - 300.

The Wilcox postmaster during this period was August F. Burke.

Lot 931    

Wilgus, Ariz., Mar 3, 1889 (Cochise), oily cds (Meyer 1, rarity 7) on target canceled 1887, 2¢ green corner card entire to Manti, Utah; a bit reduced at right, F.-V.F., this is One of Only Two Recorded Examples of This Wilgus Postmark.
Estimate    $400 - 600.

The Aztec Post Office in Cochise county opened on July 21, 1887 and so the name changed to Wilgus on February 21, 1888. The post office was discontinued January 31, 1911. No usages are known during the Aztec period.

Willcox, A.T., 1/30/98 (Cochise), manuscript postmark (Meyer 5A, rarity 6) on corner card cover to Fulton, N.Y., manuscript canceled 2¢ small bureau tied by "El Paso & Los Angeles, R.P.O., Jan 30, 1898" cds; small cover edge tears, F.-V.F., the only known manuscript postmark from Willcox.
Estimate    $100 - 150.
