Circular Geometric, clear strike ties 7¢ vermilion (149), bright color, on cover with purple address to Leipzig, Germany, red "New York Paid All Br. Transit May 1" exchange cds; some light cleaning, small edge tears, still a Very Fine strike, Illustrated in Weiss on page 29. The earliest of only 8 recorded examples of GE-S2. ex-Weiss, Mercedes.

Cross within Circle, bold strikes ties 6¢ carmine (148) deep rich color shows extra ink, on 1873 orange cover to Gensingen, Germany, red "New York Paid All Direct, Feb 27" exchange cds, red framed "Hamburg Franco" (3.13.73) transit; reduced slightly at right, Very Fine and choice, ex-Landau, Richards.
Weiss No. GE-S4    Estimate $300 - 400.

The earliest of only eight recorded GE-S4 covers, with a period of use spanning only 8 days from February 27 to March 6, 1873.

Intricate Geometric, fine strike ties 10¢ brown (150) on 1872 cover to France, sharp strike of vivid red "New York 'Paid 6' Jun 26" exchange credit cds also ties stamp, red London Paid (7.8.72) transit cds and matching oval "PD" handstamp, Beziers (7.11) arrival backstamp, F.-V.F.
