(Los Angeles) Wells, Fargo & Co., Anaheim, Apr 12, blue oval date stamp on 1870, 2¢ green entire to San Francisco, with tan allover "Langenberger & Co., Anaheim, Cal." shaded ad, company frank (WFE-030a) at left, Very Fine and choice, overall ads from the Orange county area are very rare.

(Los Angeles) Wells, Fargo & Co's Express, Anaheim, Cal., blue oval handstamp on 1884, 2¢ brown entire to San Francisco, black frank (WFE-060) at top, Extremely Fine, Anaheim moved into Orange County when that county was created in 1889, illustrated in Leutzinger, ex-Leutzinger.

Lot 426    

(Los Angeles) Wells, Fargo & Co. Express, Claremont, clear strike of oval handstamp on 2¢ Columbian entire canceled by purple "Wells, Fargo & Co. Express, Pasadena, Cal., March 19, 1894" date stamp, company frank and pencil "The Presidio, Suter E. Brown" addressing on reverse, Very Fine, the only recorded example of this Claremont handstamp.
Estimate    $200 - 300.

Both hand stamps are rare with fewer than five recorded for Pasadena and this being the only one recorded for Claremont. Both locations are located on the PE Railroad line and envelope most likely used for company business.

(Los Angeles) Wells, Fargo & Co's Express, Compton, Cal., bold strike of blue oval handstamp canceling on 1874, 3¢ green entire to Los Angeles, black company frank (WFE-060) at top, reverse with red "Wells, Fargo & Co. Express, Los Angeles, Cal., Dec 12, 1883" oval date stamp, Extremely Fine, the Compton handstamp is believed to be unique.
Estimate    $200 - 300.

(Los Angeles) Wells, Fargo & Co's Express, Englewood, Cal., exceptional strike of purple oval handstamp on 2¢ Columbian entire to Los Angeles, blue Columbian frank (WFE-053) and purple "Wells, Fargo & Co. Ex., Los Angeles, Cal., Sep 22, 1893" receiving cds on front and reverse, Extremely Fine, this is the only recorded example of an Englewood handstamp, unlisted in Leutzinger.

Ex., Los Angeles, Cal., Jan 11, 1894" receiving cds on reverse, Very Fine, the only known example of this handstamp, unlisted in Leutzinger.
Estimate    $200 - 300.

Fullerton was a small station on the Southern Pacific Railroad Line and become part of Orange County when that county was created in 1889.

(Los Angeles) Wells, Fargo & Co., Los Angeles, seven Wells Fargo franked covers; handstamp types including 3-1 (including early woodblock frank), 11-9 (red), 16-2, 17-5, 17-14 and an unaddressed 24-5 railroad strike cover; few tone spots on first cover, otherwise Very Fine.

(Los Angeles) Wells, Fargo & Co's Express, Olivewood, Cal., purple handstamp used as a frank on 1884, 2¢ brown entire to Mystic, Ct., transported by Wells Fargo to Pasadena and placed in the mails with "Pasadena, Cal., Augt 4, 1887" cds, Very Fine, a unique Southern California Wells Fargo handstamp.
Estimate    $300 - 400.

Olivewood was a small railroad whistle stop that was located west of Pasadena. This location is not listed in Salley or Williams.
