Carson Valley, U.T., Jul 27, bold strike of cds on 10¢ green on buff entire to Braintree, Mass., Very Fine and choice.

Several covers were carried by Snowshoe Thompson's express from Carson Valley to Placerville during the winters of 1857-58 and 1858-1859. This cover would have been carried by Thompson from the Carson Valley post office in his role as a Chorpenning's sub-contractor for the mails, from Carson Valley to Placerville. See the article "Across the Sierra Nevada Mountains by Snow-Shoe" by Risvold and Frajola in Chronicle 215 (Aug. 2007, p. 201-211).

1863, 2¢ black, cds on 1864 cover to Picton, Canada franked with 1861 2¢ + 3¢+ 10¢ canceled by target handstamps, markings include red straight line "Paid" and "15" in octagon handstamps, transit and receiving backstamps; stamps with some defects and cover slightly reduced at left, F.-V.F., a rare Nevada territorial usage from this town paying the 15¢ treaty rate to Canada for over 3000 miles, ex-H. Spelman (See Lot 83 for California Usage).
