(Crystal Palace) Bills, Thayer & Usher, Manufacturers of Crystal Palace Mills Extra Fancy & Superfine Flour, embossed cameo corner card in red showing design of the New York Crystal Palace Building, franked with 1857, 3¢ dull red tied by grid handstamp, matching "Troy, N.Y., Dec 4" cds alongside; minor cover scuff and small opening tears at top with one slightly affecting cameo, otherwise Very Fine.

A similar design (earlier Bills & Thayer company) from the same correspondence with green cameo, sold in our Washington 2006 sale for $4,250, plus buyer's premium.

Envelope, 1876, 3¢ Centennial entire, canceled by "Centennial, Philada., Pa., Sep 15" cds and quartered cork duplex, with pioneer typewritten address to Mobile, Ala., accompanied by purple on pink enclosure with typewritten "Dear Mother" salutation and "Yours Lovingly, Robert, September 15 th. 1876." signature and date; entire flaws including soiling and missing backflap, Fine.

This printed form enclosure has been noted to be on either green or gray mottled paper with the blank enclosure used was on pink paper. This pink printed form is most unusual.

(Louisiana Purchase Exposition) 1904 Empress Dowager of China's 70th Birthday Celebration Invitation, red paper invitation from "The Imperial Chinese Commission of the Louisiana Purchase Exposition" for the celebration at the Imperial Chinese Pavilion on the World's Fair Grounds on November 16th, 1904, invitation showing two dragons and gold emblem mat upper center, includes original invitation interleaving and envelope, Very Fine, showcased at the Smithsonian National Postal Museum and illustrated in Ganz et al Pacific Exchange - China & U.S. Mail (a copy accompanies lot).
