Circle of Vs, two strikes tie 2¢ red brown (146), two singles, and 6¢ carmine (148) on 1873 small lady's cover to France, red "New York 'Paid 6' Jan 22" exchange cds, red London (2.4) transit and matching "PD" oval handstamp, red Boulogne (2.5.73) entry and arrival cds, forwarded to London with manuscript "2" rating on reverse, London (2.7) arrival cds, Very Fine and choice example of this scarce killer., ex-Van Vlissengen & Waud, Weiss, Ainsworth, Richards.

The 10¢ postage prepaid the 10¢ treaty rate for up to 10 grams with 6¢ credit to Great Britain and 4¢ retained by the U.S., as indicated by exchange cds. Illustrated in Weiss NYFM on page 391.

Circle of Wedges, two strikes tie 6¢ carmine (148) and 24¢ purple (153), faded, on 1872 blue folded cover to France, red "New York 'Paid 12' Aug 24" exchange cds, red London (9.5.72) transit, red "PD" oval handstamp, reverse with Bordeaux (9.6) and Angoulens (9.6) backstamps, Fine and rare 24¢ use, ex-Gibson, Ainsworth, Richardson.
Weiss No. TR-W2    Estimate $500 - 750.

The 30¢ in postage overpays the 26¢ fourth progression rate to France for 20-30 grams. The sender was apparently confused as the rates jump from 26¢ to 36¢. Illustrated in Weiss NYFM on page 382.

Circled Cross, sharp early strike ties 6¢ carmine (148) on 1872 blue folded cover to London England, neat "New York Oct 16" exchange cds, endorsed per "Nevada", red London arrival cds, vertical file fold barely affects 6¢, Very Fine appearing., a Very Fine use, ex-Beals, Weiss, Landau, Richards.
Weiss No. GE-S1    Estimate $200 - 300.

The earliest of 12 recorded GE-S1 covers recorded by Weiss with a period of use from October 16, 1872 to March 2, 1873. Carried on the Guion Line "Nevada" that departed New York on October 16, 1872 and arrived at Queenstown on October 28, 1872.

Circular Grid, two strikes tie two 10¢ brown (150) singles, both well centered, on 1870 folded cover to Amsterdam, Holland at double the 10¢ treaty rate reflected by blue crayon "2", red "New York Paid All Br. Transit Jul 28" exchange cds, endorsed "Pr Hammonia", Amsterdam (7.10.70); small flaws, Very Fine and choice use.

Cross-Roads, duplexed with "New York Mar 30" cds ties well centered 3¢ green (147) strip of four, on 1871 blue cover to Trinidad at the 10¢ American packet rate, red "New-York May 30" exchange cds, British "4d" colonial credit handstamp and blue crayon "5" for inland postage due, reverse with St. Thomas and Trinidad (4.22.71) arrival cds; reduced at left, Very Fine and scarce use.

Eight-Point Star Geometric, beautiful sharp strike cancels 1¢ postal card (UX3) to Hamburg, Germany, red "New York Aug 29" exchange cds, Hamburg (2.9.1874) arrival cds, this card was underpaid 1¢ for the 2¢ postal card rate to Germany but was perhaps accepted as printed matter even with a neatly handwritten message, an unusual use, Extremely Fine and superb strike.
