Mexico, 1872, Hidalgo imperf, 12c blue, Veracruz, cons 50-73, tied by "Veracruz, Feb 2, 1874" cds (Schatzkes 1753 A) on folded letter sent per Corsica to Havana, Cuba, with bold "3" reales inland Cuba rate handstamp and red crayon "4" British postage paid, British agency "Paid at Veracruz" crown circle handstamp with additional "Vera-Cruz" date stamp on reverse, Very Fine, believed to be the second latest recorded usage of the Veracruz crown circle handstamp, ex-Rosenthal; with 2008 M.E.P.S.I. certificate.

By the mid 1870's, the volume of mail out of the British agency at Tampico was down to between 1,000-2,000 pieces, while Veracruz was handling even less. Because of low volume the Veracruz agency was closed in 1874 and Tampico in 1876. This is one of the latest usages through the British agency at Veracruz.

Mexico, 1872, Hidalgo 25c & 50c single franking usages, unwatermarked, group of four covers; three 25c usages include Guanajuato-Penjamo with fancy eagle official cachet (cons 18-72), a Mexico Diligencias Generales cancel (cons 1-73) and another with Buzon handstamp (cons 1-74), a 50c Veracruz cover to Jalapa (cons 50-73), Very Fine.

Mexico, 1872, Hidalgo imperf, 50c yellow, Saltillo, horizontal pair, unwatermarked, cons 66-72, in combination with 1872, 12c blue +25c red, Saltillo, cons 36-73 (Sc. 94+95) on registered cover to Villa de la Encarnacion, canceled by "Certificado" oval handstamps (Schatzkes 1360) with additional strikes in corners, Saltillo certification boxed date stamp and center (Schatzkes 1354); cover silked reinforcing some cover tears and missing bottom flap, Very Fine appearance.

Mexico, 1872, Hidalgo imperf, 100c gray lilac, Saltillo, unwatermarked, in combination with 1872, 12c blue + 25c red, Saltillo, all cons 36-72, tied by Villa de Guerrero circular handstamps (Schatzkes 1392) on 1873 front to Saltillo addressed by a local court to the state Congress, which acknowledged receipt with a fancy eagle cachet on the back, with matching "Franco" handstamps (Schatzkes 1390A) at corners and manuscript certification boxed dating, official eagle cachet; reinforced nick at top, Very Fine, a rare small town usage.
