(Via Panama) 1854 (Nov. 16) San Francisco Cal. to Valparaiso, Chile, folded letter with "San Francisco Cal. 16 Nov" cds and matching "Paid" handstamp with pencil "48" prepaid rating, corresponding magenta "24" cent credit to G.B. below, carried by PMSC Golden Age from San Francisco Nov. 16th to Panama arriving Nov. 28th, then by PMSS Santiago departing Dec. 6th to Valparaiso arriving Dec. 27th, additional pencil "25" overwriting ratings for 25 centavos inland postage due, Very Fine, ex-Wierenga.

(Via Panama) 1862 (Jul. 22) San Francisco Cal. to Bordeaux, France, cover bearing 3¢ rose (65) and 12¢ black (69), tied by fancy cogwheel cancels, matching "San Francisco Cal., Jul 22, 1862" double-circle datestamp, carried by PMSSC Constitution to Panama, crossed the Isthmus by railway and placed on the US Mail S.S. Co. Ocean Queen to New York, red "New York 'Paid 6' Aug 15" credit exchange cds, then by Inman Line City of Manchester from New York Aug. 16th to Liverpool arriving Aug. 30th, red Calais (8.28) entry cds and small framed "PD" handstamp, Paris (8.28) and Bordeaux arrival backstamps, Very Fine and attractive.
Estimate    $200 - 300.

(Via Panama) 1865 (Sep 17) Valparaiso, Chile to Victoria, British Columbia via San Francisco, blue folded cover with British P.O. "Valparaiso, SP 17 1865" origin backstamp and red crayon "2/-" shilling prepaid rating, British P.O. Panama (10.5) transit cds, San Francisco (10.24) transit with "20" cent due rating for double the 10¢ steamship rate, Very Fine and choice use.
Estimate    $750 - 1,000.

(Via Panama) 1851 (Apr. 26) New York N.Y. to San Francisco Cal., datelined blue Gibbs correspondence folded letter endorsed "pr Steamer Prometheus" ship endorsement, reverse with clear full strike of red "Forwarded Through Gilpin's Exchange, Reading Room and Foreign Letter Office, N-York" oval handstamp, Berford & Co.'s Express red "Paid" handstamp, carried by Vanderbilt Line Prometheus departing New York Apr. 28th to Charges arriving May 5th, then PMSS Isthmus from Panama May 20th to San Francisco arriving Jun. 7th, pencil "Rec'd per Isthmus June 7/51" pencil inside docketing, Extremely Fine, a wonderful express usage sent on Vanderbilt's Independent Line.

(Via Panama) 1851 (Aug. 14) New York N.Y. to San Francisco Cal., datelined blue folded letter with "Gregory's Atlantic and Pacific Express, Forwarded by Thompson & Hitchkock" four-line handstamp and matching crude oval "Paid" handstamp, probably carried by Vanderbilt Line Prometheus from New York Aug. 14th to Chagres, then Independent Line Independence arriving in San Francisco on Sep. 16th, docketing at left "James Owen recd. Sept 17/51, pr. "Independence", came by Gregory's Express", Very Fine.
