(Town & County) Alila, Tulare Co., California, Dec 10, 1887 (Tulare), oval T&C date stamp (TUL-30) with matching Maltese cross handstamp canceling on 1887, 2¢ green corner card entire to Kirkland, O., receiving backstamp; slightly reduced at left, Extremely Fine, a short-lived postmark known used from October 1887 to February of 1888 (photo on web site).

Lot 322    

(Town & County) Amargo, Los Angeles Co., Cal., Jun 6, 1882 (Los Angeles), bold serrated oval date stamp (LOS-250, R6) with matching target handstamp canceling on 1874, 3¢ green corner card entire to Concord, Mass., a Very Fine and choice strike, this being the only recorded postmark from Amargo.
Estimate    $300 - 400.

The Amargo post office was located on the Las Virgenes Ranch, seven miles east of Newbury Park.

(Town & County) Biggs, Butte Co. Cal., Apr 6, 1885 (Butte), bold blue cds (BUT-340) with "Station" removed from name, on cover to Oroville franked with 1883, 2¢ red brown canceled by matching grid handstamp; cover reduced at left, Very Fine, the only recorded example of this provisionally altered postmark after Biggs Station changed name to Biggs at the end of the year in 1884.

(Town & County) Cahto, Cal., Mendocino County, Jul 25, 1887 (Mendocino), perfect strike of purple cds and target duplex (MEN-340) canceling on 1884, 2¢ brown entire to Napa City, receiving backstamp, Extremely Fine and choice, a gem strike of this T&C postmark, the earliest recorded with known usages less than one month between July 25th and August 10th, 1887.

(Town & County) Campo, San Diego Co., Cal., Oct 31, 1882 (San Diego), perfect bold strike of purple cds (SAN-640, R4) on cover to North Haven, Me., franked with 3¢ Banknote canceled by matching star handstamp; some cover edge wear, a Superb strike, the earliest recorded example of this T&C postmark.

(Town & County) Cana, Cal., Butte Co., Feb 7, 1884 (Butte), neat blue cds (BUT-630) on cover to Red Bluff, franked with 2¢ Banknote tied by matching target handstamp, receiving backstamp, with original enclosure; light cover edge wear, Very Fine, the earliest strike of this short-lived postmark, known used from February 7 to June 20 of 1884 (photo on web site).

(Town & County) Darwin, Inyo Co., Cal., Jan 13, 1880 (Inyo), bold clear strike of cds and target duplex (INY-600) tying 3¢ Banknote on cover to New York City, receiving backstamp, Very Fine and choice, the latest recorded use, known usages from July 24, 1879 to January 13, 1880 (photo on web site).

Lot 328    

(Town & County) De Redwood, Santa Cruz Co. Cal., May 23, 1882 (Santa Cruz), clear cds (SCR-780, R5) on 1874, 3¢ green entire to Bay City, Mich., accompanied by second cover with "Feb 25, 1882" strike of cds franked with 1¢ Banknote strip of three, all tied by target handstamps; reduction on former and later just into one stamp with some light cover tone, otherwise Very Fine, this being the only examples known of this postmark.
Estimate    $300 - 400.

The former cover was sold in our 2009 Westpex sale for $550 hammer.

Lot 329    

(Town & County) Dobbins Ranch, Yuba Co. Cal., 24 Jany (Yuba), manuscript T&C postmark (YUB-510, R5) on ca. 1853 cover to Ansonia, Conn., with manuscript "Paid 6" rate; some cover wrinkling, F.-V.F., extremely rare with only a couple recorded.
Estimate    $400 - 600.

We offered another example of the YUB-510 postmark in Sale 33 Lot 1218 that realized $920.

Lot 330    

(Town & County) Dobbin's Rancho, Yuba Co, Cal, March 14 (Yuba), manuscript T&C postmark (YUB-510, R5) with matching "Paid 6" rate on cover to Ansonia, Ct., light pencil 1853 docketing, Very Fine, a classic California rarity, open for just 2½ years when its name was changed to Oregon House.
Estimate    $200 - 300.
