(Denmark) 1859 (Aug. 4) Georgetown Cal. to Burg, Schleswig, Denmark, buff cover bearing two 10¢ green (33) singles, each cancelled by neat "15" fancy handstamp, matching "Georgetown Cal., Aug 4, 1859" cds, partial strike of red "N.York, Hamb. Pkt. 'Paid' Sep 15" credit exchange cds and red crayon "5" credit at upper right, carried by Hapag Line Saxonia from New York Sep. 1st to Hamburg arriving Sep. 15th, Hamburg (9.17) transit backstamp and "Franco" handstamp ties stamps; minor cosmetic edge repairs and reduced slightly at top, Very Fine appearance.
Estimate    $1,000 - 1,500.

A RARE USE AT THE 20¢ BREMEN-HAMBURG RATE TO DENMARK.

Although slower, Hamburg was an affordable alternative to Prussian Closed Mail. The 20¢ rate to Denmark was 15¢ cheaper.

(Egypt) 1860 (Nov. 2) East Cambridge Mass. to Alexandria, Egypt, buff cover bearing 30¢ orange (38), bright color, tied by grid, matching "East Cambridge Mass. Nov 2" cds, red "N.York, Hamb. Pkt. 'Paid' Nov 3" exchange cds with magenta "25" credit rating, Hamburg (11.20) transit backstamp with matching "Franco" handstamp at bottom and blue ms. "f3" sgr credit rating, reverse with Trieste (11.23) and blue Alexandria (12.3) arrival, red crayon "15" credit rating on reverse split for Prussian and Austrian transit; slightly reduced at right, some edgewear and soiling, Fine and unusual use, ex-Dupuy.

AN EXCEPTIONALLY RARE 1857 ISSUE COVER TO EGYPT VIA BREMEN-HAMBURG MAILS.

Egypt is a rare destination with the 1857 issue and the slower, more affordable Bremen-Hamburg mails were seldom used. The 30¢ rate to Egypt was 8¢ cheaper than the Prussian Closed mail.

(Italy) 1861 (Dec. 27) Paris, Ky. to Florence, Italy, yellow cover bearing 30¢ orange (71) cancelled by circular grid cancel, matching sharp "Paris, Ky, Dec 27, 1861" double-circle datestamp, red "New York, Hamb. Pkt. 'Paid' Jan 11" exchange cds and magenta "23" cent credit rating, carried by Hapag Teutonia from New York Dec. 28th to Hamburg arriving Jan. 28th, Hamburg arrival backstamp and "Franco" straightline with red "3¼" sgr credit, black "P.D." handstamp and ms. "3¼" restatement updated in red crayon "15", numerous backstamps including Florence arrival cds, Fine and unusual use via Hamburg mails to Italy.
