Wholesale Clothiers" corner card registered cover bearing three 3¢ ultramarine (114) singles and 10¢ yellow (116), each cancelled by purple star cancel, matching "Milwaukee, Wis. Jan 23" cds, carried by NGL Line Hansa from New York Feb. 2nd to Bremerhaven arriving Feb. 19th, red "Bremen, Franco, 20/2 70" framed transit, red "Recommandirt" fancy framed handstamp, Greiz (2.22) arrival backstamp; some light wear and soiling, Very Fine; with 2015 P.F. certificate.

AN EXCEPTIONALLY RARE 1869 ISSUE REGISTERED COVER TO GERMANY.

The 1867 US-NGU Convention set the maximum registration fees at 10¢ for the US and 2 sgr for Germany. The US actually charge an 8¢ registration fee. This cover is 1¢ convenience overpaid for the 10¢ Closed Mail rate plus 8¢ registry fee.

"319", New York green crayon "12165" registry number, carried by NGL Line America from New York Feb. 15th to Bremerhaven arriving Feb. 27th, red "Bremen, Franco 27/2 73" framed transit and fancy framed "Recommandirt" handstamp, Mar. 3rd arrival backstamp, Very Fine use convenience overpaid 1¢ for the 6¢ Direct Mail rate plus 8¢ registry fee.

1873 (Oct. 27) United States to Großeutersdorf, Saxony, orange buff cover bearing 6¢ carmine (148) canceled by boxed "X", matching indistinct Oct. 27th cds, partial red "New York, Paid All, Direct, Oct 30" exchange cds ties 6¢, carried by Hapag Line Wesphalia from New York Oct. 30th to Hamburg arriving Nov. 12th, red "Hamburg, Franco, 12/11 73" framed transit, sharp strike of black "Recommandirt" fancy framed handstamp and blue crayon "2" sgr due rating, Nov. 13th arrival backstamp, forwarded to Alkersleben, Nov. 15th arrival backstamp, Very Fine and unusual registered due use.

This cover was sent via ordinary mail, but upon entry or forwarding in Germany it was marked "Recommandirt" and marked "2" sgr due for the registered fee.
