Adams' City Express Post, 1850-51, 2¢ black on gray, full margins, placed over manuscript "paid" on 1849 folded letter sheet to Providence, R.I., red "U.S. Express Mail, N.Y., Oct 3" cds, docketed "circular"; stamp with repaired crease and small scuff, Very Fine appearance, illustrated in Patton's The Private Local Posts of the United States (page 10), ex-Worthington & Richardson; with 2021 P.F. certificate.
Scott No. 2L4    Estimate $2,000 - 3,000.

ONE OF ONLY THREE CERTIFIED ON COVER EXAMPLES OF THE ADAMS' CITY EXPRESS POST 2¢ BLACK ISSUE WITH ADAM'S DESIGNATION REMOVED.

This 1849 circular was carried by the City Express Post to the railway station where the express mail date stamp was added.

American Letter Mail Co., 1844, 5¢ black, thin paper (2nd printing), position 18, large margins to just touched at lower left, tied by exceptionally clear strike of red Field of Stars fancy cancel on Jan. 21, 1845 folded letter from Boston to New York City with street address for delivery, red "Forwarded by the American Letter Mail Company, New York, N.Y." oval handstamp; bottom edge wear erosion, otherwise Very Fine, an outstanding strike of this early fancy cancellation.
