Alexandria, Va. Two different complete unused sets of Magnus patriotic covers with allover designs of Alexandria Va., which when placed side by side form a bird's eye view of the city, the first set consists of 17 different views plus 2 duplicate views (all hand-colored), the second set consists of 12 different views (all hand-colored, except one in black & one in bronze), Extremely Fine, a wonderful and rare set.

Battle of Mill Spring Ky. (No. 7). Allover bronze Magnus design on cover to New York City, franked on reverse with 1861, 3¢ rose tied by bold "E. Saginaw, Mich., Aug 12" cds, Extremely Fine and choice; with 1991 P.F. certificate.

Battle scene. Stunning all-over patriotic design with manufacturer's imprint "Hide, Stanley & Co. Lithographic Picture Manufacturers" featuring five panel design in blue including Marching Troops, Soldiers Firing, Naval Artillery, Battle of the Ironclads, and Camp Scene with shade "Stamp Collar" at top right franked with 1866 2¢ Blackjack (trivial hidden flaws) cancelled by blue ink smudge, cover with corner nick at bottom right, F.-V.F., one of the most spectacular Patriotic cover designs; with 2004 P.S.E. certificate.
Scott No. 73    Estimate $1,000 - 1,500.

The Northern passion for patriotic envelopes had faded by the time the 2¢ stamp was issued in the summer of 1863. Use of the 2¢ Black Jack on patriotic cover is rare - limited both by the time period and relevant postal rates for this stamp.
