Lot 3091    

Mexico, Guadalajara 4r Dull Rose on Yellow, large margins all around in combination with 1861, 1r black on green, Guadalajara on fresh 1864 folded letter to Guanajuato, tied by Guadalajara boxed date stamp cancel (Schatzkes 292), Very Fine, most likely unique cover as only 280 4r Red were issued (NF $710 for off cover singles); with 2006 M.E.P.S.I. certificate.

The 4r Red on Yellow stamps were printed in parallel to the 4r Black on Yellow to combat the illegal use of splits from six larger districts. However, at the end of the issue, with the central post office in disarray, the small balance of the 4r Red stamps on hand was sent in small amounts to 16 other districts including Guadalajara. All those are rarities.
