Dec 4" cds and matching "Paid" straightline and bold "60" framed rating handstamp, endorsed "Prussian Closed Mail", double-struck red "N. York 'Paid 14' Am. Pkt. Dec 9" credit exchange cds, carried by Collins Line Baltic from New York Dec. 9th to Liverpool arriving Dec. 21st, red Aachen (12.22) transit backstamp with matching "Franco" straightline, Berlin (12.23) arrival backstamp; flap torn and opened on three-sides, F.-V.F. and attractive use at double the 30¢ Prussian Closed Mail rate.

1856 (Apr. 15) Baton Rouge La. to Brackenheim, Germany, buff cover bearing 3¢ dull red (11) and two 10¢ green (14) singles, margins to cutting, tied by two strikes of "Baton Rouge La. Apr 15" cds, red "New-York Am. Pkt. Apr 26" exchange cds, carried by Collins Line Baltic from New York Apr. 26th to Liverpool arriving May 7th, red London (5.8) transit backstamp and Calais (5.9) transit cds, Stuttgart (5.11.56) transit backstamp, blue manuscript "51 / 6" rating totalled to "57" kr., Brackenheim (5.11) arrival backstamp, Very Fine.
Estimate    $200 - 300.

Cover was prepaid for the 21¢ British open mails rate by American packet for 5¢ U.S. postage plus 16¢ transatlantic packet. The blue "51 / 6" rating is 51 kr. foreign plus 6 kr. inland for a total of 57 kr. postage due.

United States to Eutingen, Germany, large brown wrapper bearing 3¢ dull red (26) vertical pair tied by two strikes of blue circular grids along with New York red "Paid All" straightline handstamp, endorsed "Prussian Closed Mail" at top, red partial Aachen (2.28) framed transit, Horb (3.1) and Eutingen (3.2.1858) backstamps; bottom 3¢ small tear, Very Fine.

May 27" exchange credit cds, carried by Cunard Line Persia from New York May 27th to Liverpool arriving Jun. 6th, red Aachen Franco (6.8) framed transit, red crayon "2-" due rating, Stuttgart (6.10) and Jun. 11th arrival backstamps; left 10¢ with small nick at left, Very Fine, Cat. $3,800 as off-cover pair and single; with 1988 P.F. certificate.

'14' Sep 4" debit exchange cds, carried by Vanderbilt Line Ariel from New York Sep. 4th to Bremen arriving Sep. 22nd, red "24/9 KrR America uber Bremen" transit handstamp, blue crayon and ms. "9¾" due rating, reverse with Cassel (9.23), Hersfeld (9.23) and Friedewald (9.23) arrival cds, Very Fine.

1858 (Nov. 15) Manitowoc Wis. to Berlin, Germany, homemade wrapper bearing two 1¢ blue (24), rich color, carried by Cunard Line Asia from New York Nov. 24th to Liverpool arriving Dec. 5th, red French (12.6) transit cds, various manuscript ratings including Prussian blue manuscript "2½" sbr due rating, German (12.9) arrival backstamp; left stamp with couple small tears, a Very Fine use at the 2¢ French Mails newspaper rate.

1860 (c., Sep. 21) Belleville Ill. to Brunswick, Germany, brown wrapper bearing 3¢ dull red (26), some scissor trimmed perfs, tied by sharp "Belleville Ill Sep 21" cds and endorsed "Via Bremen or Hamburgh", New York red "Paid All" straightline, carried by NGL Line Bremen from New York Sep. 29th to Bremen arriving Oct. 14th, blue "America / uber Bremen / Franco" three-line transit, blue German (10.15) backstamp, a Very Fine and scarce use at the 3¢ Bremen-Hamburg newspaper rate.
Estimate    $400 - 600.

The "Via Bremen or Hamburg" routing instructions would indicate contract steamship service of either the North German Lloyd Line to Bremen or HAPAG Line to Hamburg, setting the date after July 1, 1857 when the Hamburg Treaty began. New York marked the red "PAID ALL" because the newspaper was paid to destination. There are four wrappers known from this Belleville Ill. correspondence to Brunswick.
