Mexico, 1856, First Issue, 2r red, trial color plate proof on stamp paper, full o.g., full margins and a sharp detailed impression, Very Fine and choice, an extremely rare plate one proof, with fewer than seven known to exist including a pair; with 2020 M.E.P.S.I. certificate.

Mexico, 1856, First Issue, 4r red, Puebla, tied by Puebla straight line handstamp (Schatzkes 1154) paying the inland rate on folded letter to New York, "New Orleans, La., Dec 11, 1857" transit cds and N.Y. "Steamship 10" in circle rate handstamp, Very Fine.

Mexico, 1856, First Issue, 8r red lilac, defaced reproduction plate, copper engraved printing plate showing a single very similar image of 1856-61, 8 reales issues, with M.E.P.S.I. certificate stating that it is of unknown origin and not the original government plate as it differs from the original stamp, this plate does not appear to be the one used for common reprints or known forgeries, so maybe it was produced for printing catalogs, albums or for training engravers, design shows a crossing line at center, includes two recent prints in black from the plate, Very Fine, a very unusual item that would be an interesting and eye-catching addition to a specialized collection or exhibit; with 2020 M.E.P.S.I. certificate.

Mexico, 1861, Second Issue, 4r black on yellow, diagonal bisect, Tampico, in combination with 1861, Second Issue, 8r black on red brown, diagonal bisect, both lower right portions of stamps with wide margins, slightly overlapping on folded letter sheet to San Luis Potosi paying the 6 reales rate for 1¼ ounces beyond 17 leagues, tied by Santa Anna de Tamaulipas cds (Schatzkes 1585), blue Tampico company handstamp, Very Fine and choice; signed Calves, with 2003 M.E.P.S.I. certificate.

ONE OF ONLY TWO SUCH BISECT COMBINATIONS RECORDED FROM THE 1861 HIDALGO ISSUE AND A UNIQUE TAMPICO DISTRICT USAGE - A GREAT CLASSIC MEXICO RARITY.

In the 1971 Schimmer Bash splits census only 5 covers and 3 fronts had combinations out of 418 covers, fronts and pieces with 1861 splits. In the 1995 Koning auction (which contained the largest ever split collection), only 6 covers and fronts from this issue were offered out of 146 covers. In 2002 it brought $11,000 + commission in auction. The first time in 20 years that this combination has been offered in auction. One of the 100 Iconic World Rarities in MonacoPhil 2015 and illustrated in the front page of "Favorite Finds" the catalog for the 2013-2014 Smithsonian NPM first rotating exhibit.

Mexico, 1864, Hidalgo ("Juarez" Issue) (blank value tablet) defaced reproduction plate, steel engraved printing plate showing a single very similar image of the essays without denomination of the 1864 Hidalgo issue, with M.E.P.S.I. certificate stating that it is of unknown origin and not the original A.B.N.Co. plates which printed the original stamp, this plate does not appear to be the one used for known forgeries, so maybe it was produced for printing catalogs, albums, training engravers or advertising, design shows a crossing line at center, includes four recent prints in black from the plate, Very Fine, a very unusual item that would be an interesting and eye-catching addition to a specialized collection or exhibit; with 2020 M.E.P.S.I. certificate.
