(Kern) Allen's Camp (Cal.), May 19 (18)75, manuscript postmark (Williams "no postmarks recorded") on cover to Baltimore, Md., with manuscript canceled 3¢ Banknote with year date tying stamp; some edge wear, F.-V.F., this town existed for one month officially operating between April 28th and May 28th of 1875; with 2009 A.P.S. certificate.

Lot 973    

(Kern) Allen's Camp, June 7, 1875, manuscript postmark (William "no postmarks recorded") tying 3¢ Banknote on cover to Miss. Carter in Baltimore, Md., receiving backstamp, accompanied by Baltimore bank corner card cover addressed to Capt. Carter at Allen's Camp "or Caliente", Very Fine, one of only two known postmark from this extremely short-lived post office; with 2021 P.F. certificate.
Estimate    $750 - 1,000.

This town existed for one month officially operating between April 28th and May 28th of 1875. This cover was posted ten days after the official end date of this post office.

(Kern) Annette, Cal., Feb 15, 1897, purple cds (KER-40) on 2¢ green entire to San Francisco, with San Miguel transit and receiving backstamps; sealed opening edge slit at right, Very Fine, a short-lived first handstamp postmark used from October 1896 to June 1897, rare with only a few known.

Kern County Robbery & Reward Postal Card Notices, 1903-08, three 1902 1¢ postal cards (UX18) with pre-printed messages from Bakersfield; one unused with 1908 "Post Office Robbery" notice (please keep a lookout for men selling stamps), and two used "Reward" notices for embezzlement and grand larceny, also includes a 1901 "Wanted! For Murder, $50.00 Reward" pin-up notice from the Kern County Sheriff, Very Fine.

(Kern) Joyful 4/26/84, manuscript postmark (KER-2000) on manuscript canceled 2¢ red entire to Anaheim, Bakersfield transit and receiving backstamps; small cover tear at top left, Very Fine, an extremely rare and earliest recorded postmark from the short-lived Joyful post office, with known usage between April 26th and May 16th of 1884; with 2021 P.F. certificate.
Estimate    $400 - 600.

Named by the Association of Brotherly Cooperation, a Utopian colony which disbanded at the end of 1884.
