1871-72 Insufficiently Paid markings to Great Britian. Two 3¢ banknote covers; 3¢ entire from Fernandia, Fl. to Scotland forwarded to Endinburgh with origin cds and "Insufficiently Paid" handstamp, "7½" due handstamp and Rothesay forwarding cds with manuscript "9½" re-rate, also 1872 cover from St. Louis, Mo. to London with 3¢ banknote tied by origin cds and fancy Sunface cancel, matching "Insufficiently Paid" handstamp, "4½" due handstamp and receiving backstamp, F.-V.F.

1876-79 Insufficiently Paid to England. 4 covers; 1876 Philadelphia, Pa. to Lincoln, England franked with 3¢ banknote manuscript cancel, origin cds and "3½" pence due, 1877 Boston, Mass. to London, 3¢ entire uprated with 3¢ banknote, origin cds's and "7d" due handstamp (should have been paid 10¢), 1878 Salina, Kan. to Birmingham franked with two 1¢ (faulty) + 3¢ banknotes, origin cds, "T 25 Centimes" handstamp and "7½d" due handstamp, 1879 Logansport, Ind. to London franked with 5¢ Taylor, origin cds, "T 25 Centimes" and "7½d" due handstamps, F.-V.F.

1881-87 Insufficiently Paid to Great Britain. 2 covers employing the method of doubling the insufficiency (in use after 1-Apr-1879); 1881 cover from Cleveland, O. to Devonport, England franked with 3¢ banknote (184), origin cds, with "10" centimes handstamp & "2d" due handstamp, 1887 cover from Glenwood, Mass. to Ayr, Scotland franked with 2¢ banknote (210), origin cds, "N.Y. T" in circle and manuscript 40 centimes due with "8d/F.B." due handstamp, Very Fine.

Cover franked with 1888 5¢ indigo tied by "Philadelphia, Pa., Paid, Jul 19" cds, forwarded to Copenhagen, Denmark with G.B. 1881, 1d lilac tied by "London, Jy 29, 89" duplex postmark cancel, stamp applied to pay the late fee for posting foreign bound mail after 7p.m., various transit backstamps; minor cover edge toning, F.-V.F.

1895 Cover to London. Cover with advertising corner card franked with 2¢ carmine, type III, pair and single tied by "Cleveland, Ohio, Aug 25 95" duplex cds, "R" in oval handstamp & W.C. 8d due marking in circle, reverse with label "CAUTION. Valuable enclosures should never be forwarded in unregistered Letters…This Letter has been registered because it contains-Coins.", label tied by Registered circular due handstamp; light cover tone spots, F.-V.F., an interesting cover which started off in the normal mails, but was later added to the registered mail due to the coin enclosure, with the registry fee due on arrival.

Lot 156    

1904 St. Louis, Mo. to Liverpool, England. Cover franked with two 5¢ Louisiana singles tied by Saint Louis duplex cancels, with "T 25 Centimes" handstamp, Liverpool receiving cds & large "5d" due handstamp, F.-V.F., short paid 5¢ (25 centimes - 2½d), which was doubled as a penalty to 5d due the addressee.

Lot 157    

1928 Rockaway, N.Y. to Westend, England. Cover franked with 1922, $1 violet brown tied by "Rockaway N.Y. Sep 5 5:30pm 1928" duplex cancel paying the correct half ounce letter rate for catapult service off the French Line steamship Ile de France, "Per Air Mail Service S/S Isle de France" routing instruction, service was intended to save about 24 hours in the time of arrival, there was no additional air service from France to England, Very Fine, a scarce properly franked single franking.

Lot 158    

1930 Easton, Pa. to S.S. Mauretania, London, England. Cover with return to Easton 1930, additionally addressed as "Passenger on S.S. Westernland", ship evidently landed in Antwerp, and was placed in the Belgian mails, where it was accessed 210 centimes (about 6 cents) due, three Belgium 70c Postage Dues (J28) tied by Antwrpen cds's, 2¢ 4th bureau tied by Easton machine cancel & blue Red Star Line postage due label affixed, Very Fine.
