Postal Note, San Francisco, Cal., Station D. May 18, 1888, Martin type PN5 printed by the American Bank Note Co. in New York, made out for 7 cents, bold red Sta. D San Francisco M.O.B. cds on reverse; light file fold, otherwise Very Fine, a Great Rarity With One of Only Two Examples of This California Note Type Known.
Estimate    $5,000 - 7,500.

One of most recent postal not census only 28 California notes of all types were recorded and this note was not among them. Only one type PN5 note was listed and only 13 other notes bear a 7 cents value.

Postal Note, Philadelphia, Pa. September 7, 1883, Martin type PN1 printed by Homer Lee Bank Note Co., New York, with rare siderographer's partial imprint at top, made out for two cents and payable at Camden, N.J., violet Philadelphia M.O.B. cds; hinged remnants on reverse, Very Fine, issued just four days after the introduction of postal notes.

May 10, 1894, Martin type PN7 printed by Dunlap & Clake of Philadelphia, made out for two cents, bold Portland M.O.B. cds; hinged remnants on reverse, Very Fine, all but three of the recorded Oregon notes are from Portland and this is one of the few not from the Norton group.

Norton in May and June 1894 as the use of postal notes was coming to an end.
