(Arkansas) HELENA, Arks. / MAY 17, two-line postmark on 1836 folded letter datelined "Helena May the 5th 1836" to Henderson Ky., interesting content from John Hart Standley to his brother including "…Kind brother we have got this far without any accident. The River is very high in many places - in the water there is very little of anything planted yet on the Mississippi and in many places cannot be before the 15th or 20th of this month. I have had no information relative to the corn market from below that I could rely upon but have no doubt that it is very low. Bacon is selling from 15 to 18 cts a pound along the River…"; few tone spots and edge wear, Very Fine and rare.

(Colorado) Denver City, Col, Nov 4, blue cds duplex with four-rings as forwarding postmark on 1863 cover in search of soldier in 1st Batt. Colorado Regiment bearing 3¢ rose (65) cancelled by fancy circular geometric cancel duplexed with "New Ipswich N.H." cds to Fort Lyon, Denver City, Colorado Terr., forwarded to Kansas City Mo., "Pawnee Fork Kas." forwarding cds with address on reverse of "1st Battery Colorado Vols, Denver city, Col. Ter."; flap torn and some light soiling, otherwise Very Fine and interesting Colorado Territorial use.

(Colorado) (Leadville, Colo.), ca. 1870-80's pink envelope with an allover illustrated mining scenes showing Mining, Smelting and Banker Holding "U.S. Bonds", "W. Mackwitz, St. Louis" maker imprint, backflap with "Hildreth Printing House…Leadville" imprint, Very Fine and rare.

(Colorado) The Overland Stage Line (Office of), Ben Holladay, Proprietor, Denver City, Col. Ter., printed corner card with "Carrying the Great Through Mails from the Atlantic to the Pacific" endorsement, on internal company cover with printed "Bela M. Hughes, Esq., General Agent, Atchison, Kansas" address, carried outside the mails, sender and recipient docketing; repaired corner tear at bottom left, F.-V.F., a very rare Overland Stage Line cover.
Estimate    $200 - 300.

Bela M. Hughes was an American lawyer, businessman, politician and Ben Holladay's cousin. He joined him in Weston, Missouri where Holladay started his first businesses. As a lawyer, represented Holladay in the takeover of Russell and Majors interests in the C. O. C. & P. P. Express.

Kellar, Scissors Colo." notation at left, boxed receiving date stamp on reverse; small stamp flaws, F.-V.F.

"6" cent rating on 1841 folded letter datelined from Hartford to Berlin Ct., additional red "New Britain Ct., Dec 11" cds, various blue auxiliary handstamps of "Missent", "Paid", "Missent & Forwar'd" and "Way 5", Very Fine and fascinating use.

(Connecticut) Windsor Locks, Ct., "Sep 19", type I fancy illustrated Steamboat in Lock postmark in red with manuscript dating and matching "18¾" rating on 1835 folded letter to Waterford N.Y., F.-V.F., A rare early example of the second type Windsor Locks fancy illustrated steamboat in lock postmark.
Estimate    $300 - 400.

Alfred Smith, president of the Enfield Falls Canal Company, proposed to change the name of Pine Meadow to Windsor Locks. The Windsor Locks Post Office was opened in 1833 and was located in a store near a grist mill owned by Charles Haskell Dexter. He eventually was appointed first postmaster.

(Indian Territory) Tahlequah, C.N. "Nov 27", neat double-circle postmark with manuscript date and matching ms. "10" rating on circa 1853 cover to Mt. Holyoke Female Seminary at South Hadley Mass., forwarded to Cornish Flat N.H. with red "South Hadley Mass., Dec 26" cds, ms. "Ford" and matching large "5" rating handstamp, small edge tear at left, Very Fine and scarce Indian Territory use from Cherokee Nation, ex-Bleuler.
Estimate    $500 - 750.

The Cherokee Female Seminary was established in the summer of 1851, and at the insistence of Sarah Worcester and others, a Miss Whitman, a student at Mount Holyoke was engaged as the head-mistress. It is probable that this is a letter to one of her classmates.

Free" frank on folded letter datelined "Cassville, Michigan Territory, Feby 25th, 1829", to St. Armand, Lower Canada, with "Via Franklin P.O., Vt." endorsement at bottom left, red manuscript "1/2" rating crossed-out; small cover tear at top, Very Fine, a rare Michigan territory usage.

(Missouri Territory) "Jackson M.T., 5 Sept", manuscript postmark and "25" rating on folded letter datelined "Little Rock (Ark. Ter.) Augt. 25th 1820" to Andover Mass., manuscript "Andover, Missent & forwd March 31" postmark and "12½" rating to Salisbury Ct. totalled to "37½" cents due, letter written by Ephraim Chapman who was a missionary to the Cherokees and Osages; some staining bottom left, Fine and scarce Missouri Territory use.
