Salina, Col., April 5th, 1875, manuscript postmark on 1874, 3¢ green entire to Hillsboro, O.; sealed cover tear at top well away from postmark, otherwise Very Fine, this is the only known territorial postmark from Salina, ex Jarrett.
Estimate    $200 - 300.

The principle mining camps in Boulder county were Salina, Left Hand (Gold Hill), Ward District and Sunshine.

Lot 792    

San Luis Colo Dec 1, blue cds on circa 1865 cover to Don Fernando de Taos, New Mexico Territory, franked with blue target cancelled 1861 3¢ rose (defective), cover slightly reduced at left, F.-V.F. and rare, the only recorded territorial cover from San Luis, illustrated in Jarrett's Colorado book, ex Person.
Estimate    $300 - 400.

San Luis, which was settled in 1851, is credited as the oldest occupied town in Colorado.

Sedalia, Colo., Sep 16, cds and matching target handstamp canceling on 1¢ postal card to Denver, Col., reverse datelined "Plum, Sept 16, 1874", Very Fine, one of two known territorial handstamp postmarks known from Sedalia, the other which is only on a piece.

Silverton, Col., Aug 26, cds with matching target handstamp tying 1873, 3¢ green on cover to East River, Conn., notation on reverse referring to the original enclosure datelined from La Playa Camp on Aug 21, 1875; some cover tone spots and reduction at left, F.-V.F., one other example of this postmark is reported to exist.

Silverton, Colo., Dec 20, ca. 1875 cds with circular handstamp canceling on 1874, 3¢ green entire to Boston, Mass., with manuscript return address at left addressed "Silverton, La Plata Co., Col. Ter.", Very Fine, one of only a few territorial strike known.

South Arkansas, Col., May 26, ca. 1875-76 full clear cds on cover to Framingham, Mass., franked with manuscript canceled 1874, 3¢ green; small cover nick at bottom, Very Fine, this is the only recorded postmark from this post office.
Estimate    $300 - 400.

A territorial usage as the South Arkansas post office was established on April 22, 1868 and the name changed to Poncho Springs on March 13, 1877. This South Arkansas is often confused with the Denver and Rio Grande Railroad station of the same name, which became Salida.
